This painting was created during my first visit to Rome, in the neighborhood of Trastevere. Every morning, I would set out for a day of painting, drawing, and studying art, and this was the first sight I encountered outside the door of where I stayed. I cherish this painting because it captures the moment I fell in love with the city. The Vespa, the water fountain in front of the ancient wall covered in vines, the cobblestone street, and the layers of buildings climbing up to the blue Roman sky - it's a perfect everyday scene that is simultaneously unforgettable.
