Dolce Far Tutto - "The Sweetness of Doing Everything"

"My love and curiosity for the Eternal City runs deep and has always called to the artist within me. The more I started to understand the significance of this place and the art here, the more it started to wake up the artist in me. I could feel the generations of artists who lived, studied and created here, It flows through the cobbles and into my bones. There is an artistic well that artists have built here, we come to pay our dues, fill our creative hearts and leave with pure inspiration. For over 7 years I have returned to Rome every summer and grown my love for this city I walk the streets day and night wondering what lies around the next corner or beyond that ruin driven by the endless potential for inspiration.

I have learned that the monuments and famous sights are often not the most memorable parts of the journey, sometimes it is a shadow wrapping itself around a dome, sometimes it is a gap between two buildings that perfectly frames a cathedral, It is a spotlight that carves an ancient pillar out of the deep night sky. it is an early morning just after the colorful splash of sunrise and before the hard shadows of daylight when you can listen to the cool summer silence of the city and feel its joy watching you paint. I realize this city was built by artists I belong here and There are no accidents, the way light, life and art interact here is all part of the plan.

My mission with this show is to share my experience discovering this city and finding myself as an artist in the process. The paintings and drawings contained here tell the story of Rome but they are pages out of my life story becoming who I am and making my greatest artistic leap by sharing it with you." - Andrew Petterson
