Food has been a timeless subject in art since pre-renaissance times as a symbol of abundance and prosperity. In a contemporary context the meaning is almost inverse. This is a fundamental part of life that is easily accessible to everyone and often overlooked in meaning. This painting is a reminder to be grateful for the most basic of human needs and to reflect on what we have, those who we share and "break bread with". This bread was made by a friend and placed on a hand loomed placemat made by my grandmother.
