The Belvedere torso has become legendary to artists, known to have been one of Michelangelo's favorite sculptures, even to be nicknamed "The school of Michelangelo." its influence can be found in many of his works, including two figures in the Last Judgement located in the Sistine chapel nearby. This fragmented marble statue also inspired many other artists of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The Belvedere is the answer to what inspired the artists we look at as gods. It is the figure that ties them to earth and shows us that they, like all artists, were studying those before them and were students on the journey to creativity and inspiration. This drawing was a special moment for me to step into their shoes, stand where they stood, and be inspired by something that inspired them.
